Integrative Assessment TechniqueTM - What it is
Integrative Assessment TechiniqueTM is a diagnostic discipline developed by Loren Marks, a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) medicine. As are all DC's, Dr. Marks is also a board certified clinical nutritionist. He earned his Diplomate (the equivalent of a fellowship in traditional western medicine) in Nutrition from the American Clinical Board of Nutrition (DACBN) in 2003.
During the course of his career, Marks became a senior Clinical Instructor in Contact Reflex Analysis - a comprehensive nutritional assessment - created by Dick Versandaal, DC. He taught the course to thousands of doctors over the course of a fifteen year period. Through the use of the system in his own practice, coupled with the correlation of his findings with blood chemistries and functional medical testing, Marks developed Integrative Assessment TechniqueTM.
Basic Tenets of Integrative Assessment TechniqueTM
IATTM is a system of muscle testing, or applied kinesiology. The system works on the basis of the fact that human beings are bio-electric organisms, and as such, have an electrical field within and without their physical structure.
The electrical circuitry of the human body is complex, and many circuits exist as points on the body that correspond to portions of the nervous system, the web of meridians that form the basis for Chinese medicine, and the chakras - centers of energy most usually associated with ayurveda. All of these electrical systems are well documented in the scientific literature.
Thus, a circuit on the human body can be assessed for integrity. The diagnostician performs the exam by choosing a target muscle, typically the front deltoid, and testing one of any several points on the body while holding the over-arching question, "Is this point (corresponding to a structural, mental / emotional, or biochemical state) in balance?" When the answer is yes, the target muscle remains strong. When the answer is no, the target muscle weakens.
From that point, nutritional, bio-energetic (homeopathic), or allopathic interventions are employed as dictated by the situation, and optimal functioning of the target organ or metabolic function is renewed.
What Types of Health Conditions Does IATTM Screen For?
Theoretically, IAT could be used for screening for any health state, but the system was designed to screen and give indication of treatment for musculoskeletal problems, disturbances in neurotransmitter balance, and biochemical issues that impact optimal health. With special regard to biochemistry, IAT provides the client with treatment options for several aspects of health that impact the aging process. Amongst these are inflammation, glycation, and mitochondrial decay.
