PERSONAL TRAINING: NUTRITION 201: Healing The Gut

Injury Recovery, Surgery Recovery, and Digestive Health

If you are trying to recover from injury or surgery, food allergies and a lack of gut health impede your progress because they increase global inflammation. The increased inflammatory response from food allergies often manifests itself in the form of physical pain in a part of the body not typically associated with digestion. If you are injured or have recently had surgery, it is a good bet that area will be affected first.

If you want to maximize your recovery from training or injury, you must minimize additional stress through proper digestive health. As our area is one of the most stressful places to live in the world, New York City personal trainers and strength coaches need to understand how to integrate digestive health into your overall program for success.

Sports Performance and Digestive Health

At the other end of the spectrum; you cannot compete at the highest level in sport if you are injured or fat, or if you do not recover quickly from practices and workouts. Food allergies and poor digestion make you fatter. They reduce your work capacity and your recovery ability, which in turn inhibits your ability to get into shape. If you are fat, you are slow. It cannot be said more simply than that.

In sport, strength and speed win. If you want to get as lean and as strong as you are capable of getting, inflammatory responses need to be minimized, and nutrient absorption must be maximized. It makes no difference if you are a professional athlete or trying out for intramural squad. If you want to excel, make sure you have superior digestive health first. If you have hired a New York City personal trainer to help you reach your goals, make sure they understand the importance of digestive health.
