(Don't) Get In Shape for the Summer

So How Do I Get In Shape If I Work a Full-Time Job?

You start now. You start slow. And you give yourself as much time as possible to get the job done. A bride-to-be that comes and consults with me to get in shape for her wedding six weeks from now has missed the boat by six weeks at least and more likely by eighteen.

Can she get to a better place than if she did nothing at all? Of course. However, if she’s got it into her head that her 35-year-old body is just going to whip itself into shape like it did when she was 22, then I promise that she is in for disappointment. The process is not the same. The speed of progress is not the same. Gains (or losses) don’t come as easily as they once did. And on top of it all, there’s that looming deadline only six / three / one weeks away and the dress won’t look good oh my god why can’t I lose weight what am I going to do…

Getting In Shape – Time Is Your Friend

If you have a milestone coming your way that you want to get into better shape for, or even possibly the best shape of your life for, you need to start now, months in advance. Physique transformation is very nice; its romantic, dynamic, exciting, and sexy, but for most people it is not a reality; it is a fantasy.
