Science-Based Evidence for Muscle Testing as a Diagnostic Tool

Well I want to be fair, but that seems strange to me.

Wikipedia furthermore cites that "Barrett is at the forefront of exposing shady aspects of chiropractic." Now pardon me, but it seems that apples are apples and oranges are oranges. Would it not make sense for Dr. Barrett to review conventional medicine, since he is a conventional medical doctor?

The above statement assumes, of course, that we can agree that psychiatry is a conventional medical discipline. How can conventional medicine be outside his scope? Furthermore, since he does not have a degree of any sort in alternative medicine, from where I sit, I have to say that he is unqualified to review alternative medical modalities. But that is only my opinion. Wikipedia goes on to quote

Donna Ladd, a journalist with The Village Voice, [who] says Barrett

relies mostly on negative research to criticize alternative medicine, rejecting most positive case studies as unreliable.

She further writes

that Barrett insists that most alternative therapies simply should be disregarded without further research. "A lot of things don't need to be tested [because] they simply don't make any sense," he says, pointing to homeopathy, chiropractic, and acupuncture.[24]

We don't need to test alternative therapies? Wow, what an impartial, unbiased, scientific statement that is. Maybe the real problem is that Dr. Barrett, although he seems to be an authority, has a major bias against alternative healthcare because his perception is that it doesn't make sense. Or maybe it's another reason...

As I was putting the finishing touches on this article with a list of links, I came across a great piece of information by entering "Dr. Stephen Barrett" into google. Since fair is fair, I listed that information on his name in the links section, since it was the number one return on those search terms. Sometimes, life is truly poetic. From the number one entry for the search terms, "Dr. Stephen Barrett", at canlyme.com/quackwatch.html:

In October 2005, Dr. Stephen Barrett was involved in a lawsuit against a chiropractor. During testimony and cross-examination, it came to light that Barrett was not a board certified psychiatrist, because he failed his certification exam. Not that failing should damn him, but he obviously lies about his credentials on his website. Bad form, indeed, especially since he had apparently given expert testimony as a psychiatrist in numerous court cases. Holy mistrial, Batman!

Additionally, it also became apparent that Stephen Barrett has ties to the American Medical Association (AMA), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and Food and Drug Administration (FDA). As such, he is a politically-oriented figure with an axe to grind, and not much else.
