PERSONAL TRAINING: NUTRITION 301: The 4-Day Rotation Diet, Part I: Protein
Shopping for Red and Game Meats: Grass-fed and Organic Options
Organic and grass-fed meats are very important! Animal sources of protein are higher on the food chain, and if they’re organic, that means everything they ate was, too. "Grass-fed" means that the livestock was fed its natural diet. Grass-feeding alleviates the need for antibiotics and hormones that are commonly used to keep the livestock healthy and to get them to fatten quickly. Great places to go on the Internet for organic and or grass-fed options are:
www.brokenarrowranch.com: My personal favorite. They produce excellent quality antelope, venison, and boar.
www.blackwing.com: For the person with too little time. They carry ostrich, buffalo, elk, beef, chicken, turkey, quail, duck, hen, and pheasant. The meats from this site are hormone free, and they are organic; they are NOT grass-fed. This means that they are far better than the average meat you get in the store, but they are not the best. If you want it simple, go here; it is a great, healthful, one-stop shopping experience.
www.peacefulpastures.com and www.texasgrassfedbeef.com are two great sites that produce several different products, including raw, organic dairy.
www.scenicmesa.com is a great place for grass-fed buffalo.
www.eatwild.com is another great site to bookmark; it is a clearinghouse of information for natural farms all over the US, so you can find a natural farm close to home.
All of these places have high quality meats, poultries, and dairy. They overnight your order in a freezer box, and I’ve used all of them at one time or another with great results.
Fat loss and muscle gain begin with proper nutrition, and a personal trainer who understands the integration of proper dietary habits is what you need to succeed.
