Healthy Fats: Hidden Treasure for Getting Lean
If you do not know it already, not all fat is bad. I’ll say it differently: some fats are very healthful and actually help you to lose fat on your body!
The healthy fats include EFA’s, or essential fatty acids, which are made up of the components: EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid).
You may not be able to read it, but eat it. Do not skip out on fat; it provides a feeling of satiation, so that you do not over eat. EFA’s have anti-inflammatory properties, provide the insulation to nerves and nerve endings, and reduce the incidence of scar tissue formation. Healthy fats aid in the management of insulin and prevent diabetes. They are cardio-protective, improve your hormone and cholesterol profiles, and are helpful in combating diseases of the brain. Healthy fats also help you get lean.
Sources of Healthy Fat – EFA’s and MCT’s
Oils
Fish oil is the best source of EFA’s. Olive oil is also excellent. Coconut oil, though not a great source of EPA and DHA, is high in MCT’s, or Medium Chain Triglycerides. Though they have the most application to individuals engaged in endurance sports as a fuel source, they are still an excellent fat to ingest.
When your goal is fat loss, hire a personal trainer who understands the relationship of eating fat to lose fat.
